The Study Shack, a NYC Tutoring business since 2005, is owned and operated by Janie Teller, M.Ed., who holds three teaching credentials from the University of California, Los Angeles:

Janie has 25-years of experience in regular and special education, having taught at the elementary and secondary levels in public and private schools, as well as backstage on movie, television and Broadway sets. She has also served as a learning specialist, working with adolescents challenged by learning and/or emotional issues. Most recently, she has run a private tutoring center in New York City.
There are three key factors that we use to determine how effective a tutor will be.
- The tutor's subject matter knowledge
- The tutor's experience teaching and tutoring in that subject
- The tutor's personality- can the tutor connect with young people?
The tutors at The Study Shack are extremely well qualified and generally have both advanced degrees and extensive backgrounds in their respective subject areas. The team is comprised of a group of collegial individuals working well together and individually, to enhance each student's understanding of the material at hand.
